ncc day History

The NCC in India was formed in 1948 by the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. The Act was adopted on the 15th of July 1948. National Cadet Corps can be seen as the successor of the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) that was established in 1942 by British in 1942. British during 1942. In the course of World War II, the UOTC was not up to the requirements set by the British. The result was that better plans needed to be created, that could aid more kids in a more effective manner, even in peace time. A committee headed by Pandit H.N. Kunzru proposed a cadet organization to be set up within schools and colleges on a nationwide scale. In 1948, the National Cadet Corps Act was signed by the Governor General and on July 15th, 1948, The National Cadet Corps was formed.

In the conflict in 1965 and 1971, between United States and Pakistan, NCC cadets were the secondary line of defence. They organised camps to help the factories that manufactured ordinance and also supplied ammunition and weapons towards the battlefield. They also formed patrol groups to take down enemy paratroopers. The NCC Cadets worked together with Civil Defence authorities and actively engaged in rescue operations and traffic control. Following the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars, the NCC syllabus was revised. Instead of being the second line of defence, the NCC syllabus placed more emphasis on the formation of leadership and officer-like attributes. The training in the military provided to NCC pupils received were cut back and greater emphasis was placed on other areas such as youth-management and social service.
