Aims of NCC

1.To develop the character and courage of a person, as well as command and control the discipline of leadership and mental outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship, and principles of giving back in youngsters to help them become an effective citizen.

2.To build a human resources which is organized, well-trained and enthusiastic young people who can provide leadership throughout all aspects of their lives, including in the Armed Forces and be always available to serve the nation.

"I do hereby solemnly promise that I will serve my motherland most truly and loyally and that, I will abide by the rules and regulations of the National Cadet Crops. Further under the command and control of my commanding officer I will participate in every camp most sincerely and wholeheartedly".

The NCC in India was formed as a result of legislation known as National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. The Act was signed on July 15, 1948. National Cadet Corps can be considered as the successor to the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) that was established in 1942 by British in 1942. British during 1942. In the years following World War II, the UOTC was not up to the requirements set by the British. The result was that better plans must be devised, to aid more kids in a more effective manner even during peacetime. A committee led by Pandit H.N. Kunzru proposed a cadet organization to be set up in colleges and schools on a national scale. In 1948, the National Cadet Corps Act was approved by the Governor General and on July 15, 1948 The National Cadet Corps was established.

In the wars that erupted between 1965 and the United States and Pakistan, NCC cadets were the secondary line of defence. They set up camps to help the factories that made ordinance, and provided ammunition and weapons to the front. They they also were used as patrol groups to stop enemy paratroopers. The NCC Cadets worked in conjunction with Civil Defence authorities and actively took part in rescue missions and traffic management. Following the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars , the NCC syllabus was revised. Instead of being merely the second line of defence NCC syllabus emphasized more on the development of leadership and officer-like attributes. The military-related training provided to NCC students received was trimmed and the emphasis was put on other subjects like youth-management and social service.
